Shane Anderton

Shane has 25 years’ experience in dispute resolution and corporate/commercial litigation, with particular expertise in financial services regulation. Shane’s key strength is his ability to devise a litigation and/or settlement strategy that focuses on his client’s key commercial objectives and financial circumstances. He has access to a diverse network of barristers, experts, and industry representatives.

Shane has a deep knowledge of the financial services industry, having completed the AFMA Financial Markets Program, and is accredited by the Australian Financial Markets Association (AFMA). He has also studied regulation at the London School of Economics and leadership, strategy, and finance at Harvard Business School.

Shane regularly advises on complex regulatory disputes, claims in contract, equity, and public and administrative law (including judicial review and statutory appeals). He also routinely advises in relation to litigation finance arrangements and due diligence on cases for litigation funders. He acts for a diverse range of clients, including domestic and offshore banks, public and private companies, SMEs, and private individuals.

Shane is frequently entrusted with quality referrals from law firms where conflicts prevent them from acting, particularly in high profile, difficult, complex, and technical matters, where his clients often face significant reputational risk.

A strong supporter of rugby union, Shane chairs a sporting start-up company and a charity, Pass to Me, which specialises in the distribution of sporting equipment to disadvantaged communities in NSW.

Prior to joining the Deutsch Miller partnership in 2014, Shane worked for top-tier litigation firms, including Bell Gully (NZ), Herbert Smith LLP (London), and Atanaskovic Hartnell (Sydney). Shane also worked for the Treasury Solicitor for England & Wales in a specialised public law practice.
